Why Choose The Youth Fairy?

According to a study published by the NHS, 1 in 5 young people were living with a probable mental health disorder in 2023. With these numbers continuing to rise, it’s understandable that many parents and caregivers feel unsure about where to turn for support.

At The Youth Fairy, we specialise in paediatric hypnotherapy and have supported children and teens all over the UK in overcoming their mental health challenges.

Our Fairies (otherwise known as therapists) provide a friendly, warm, and welcoming space where children feel understood and heard.

We know it can feel overwhelming to make sense of what your child might be going through and to find the right therapist to help. That’s why The Youth Fairy is dedicated to offering therapy designed especially for young people, empowering them to make positive change for the long term.

What Makes Our Child-Focused Approach Different?

Our paediatric hypnotherapy approach is specifically tailored to young people of all ages. Taking a solution-focused approach, we use brain-based techniques and focus on the positive aspects of your child’s life. Unlike traditional models, our sessions are modern, brain-informed and tailored to how children naturally learn and respond, making it easier for them to relax and open up, at their own pace.

Finding a therapist that your child, or teen, likes and trusts is essential to the effectiveness of the process. We also passionately believe in educating children about their mental health, so they understand how the brain can influence feelings, behaviours or patterns they may be struggling with.

Some child-centred principles we follow include playful engagement through stories and imagery, teaching children about how their brains work and involving parents to support the process at home.

Practitioner Qualifications & Safety Standards

All Youth Fairies have substantial experience working with young people in various settings. They are collectively qualified in a range of approaches, including Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy, Coaching, NLP and Youth Mental Health First Aid.

All our practices are age-appropriate and aligned with the UK Safeguarding Children Board standards, and our practitioners hold enhanced DBS checks and follow recognised codes from NCH, AfSFH, CNHC and the NBMP.

Safeguarding & Parental Involvement

As a parent or guardian, you play an important role in supporting your child at home, and encouraging them to reinforce what they learnt in their hypnotherapy and psychotherapy sessions.

Our Fairies make sure to work closely with you, keeping you involved and informed, where appropriate, every step of the way.

In the initial parent call, our style of solution-focused hypnotherapy and psychotherapy will be explained to you, and the fairy you’re working with will share advice as to how you can support your child outside of sessions.

For caregivers and parents who would like to learn more about the science behind the way their child is feeling, check out our Blog Area, the Parent Pad.

Common Childhood Challenges We Can Help With

At The Youth Fairy, we provide support to children dealing with a wide range of emotional and behavioural challenges.

Here are some of the challenges we address:

Child Anxiety & Trauma

We use a solution-focused approach to support children dealing with anxiety and trauma. We explain what’s happening in their brain and practise coping strategies together. We also assist parents or guardians and provide them with tools that they can use to support their child at home.

Bedwetting Solutions

Persistent bedwetting beyond a certain age could affect your child’s self-esteem or quality of sleep. Our approach to helping children with these problems focuses on helping them relax and build confidence rather than shame. The goal is for your children to learn to manage their body’s responses and feel better about their nighttime routines.

Sleep Support for Better Nights

Tired children find it difficult to keep up with their school work, friendships, and smaller challenges. During our sessions, we explore what makes bedtime difficult for them and teach them calming techniques to help them sleep. As their stress, anxiety or other symptoms reduce in response to our sessions, we would also expect to see improvements in their quality of sleep as well.

Exams & School-Related Stress

Exams and school pressures can weigh heavily on children or teenagers, resulting in anxiety and self-doubt. Whether it’s GCSE mocks or end-of-year exams, we teach them ways to manage those feelings in a calm way, so they can stay focused and confident in what they’re doing. For families struggling with EBSA (emotionally based school avoidance), we can help in this area, too.

Confidence & Self-Esteem in Teens

Teenagers tend to compare themselves to others and can be really hard on themselves. We help teens recognise their positive attributes and open up about what’s bothering them, equipping them with the skills they need to feel more secure in themselves and their future.

IBS & Childhood Abdominal Pain

Children with IBS or recurring tummy pain often feel anxious and stuck in a cycle of worry. Our fairies will explain to them how stress affects their body and teach gentle techniques to help with their symptoms.

Is Hypnotherapy Safe for Children?

Are you unsure as to what hypnotherapy is? Would you like to learn more about the effectiveness and process?

In essence, hypnotherapy is a therapeutic technique that uses guided relaxation, focused attention, and positive suggestion to help individuals make changes in their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

It is completely safe, and the individual is in full control at all times.

How Paediatric Hypnotherapy Helps Your Child

If your child or teen struggles with emotional regulation, has trouble sleeping or is showing signs of stress, hypnotherapy could be a powerful support tool for them. This approach is flexible and can be adapted to your child’s age and pace.

Hypnotherapy can help your child:

  • Process their worries, anxieties, or traumatic memories
  • Support a healthier sleep routine and reduce bedtime, school-related or other fears
  • Build their confidence, focus, and resilience

If you feel that hypnotherapy might be the right option for your child, or want to learn more about how it works, get in touch with one of our paediatric therapists today.

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart! You have given so much to my daughter. She is radiating a beauty and confidence that has not been seen for such a long time."

Our Therapeutic Approach

Every one of our sessions is built around your child’s unique personality and goals. Using a brain-informed, modern approach, we’ll identify what’s troubling your child and explain the science behind the way they’re feeling.

Our paediatric hypnotherapy encourages children to re-focus on the more positive aspects of life, recognise their own strengths and abilities, develop healthier sleep routines, and take part in activities and interactions that nurture their emotional wellbeing.

Age & Developmental Appropriateness of Sessions

The approach we use for a seven-year-old is, of course, different from that for a fifteen-year-old. We tailor each of our sessions to your child’s age, stage of development, and pace. For example, we run more playful sessions for younger children, and dive more heavily into science with teenagers, so they can understand their emotional response and build resilience.

No matter their age, we make sure to create a safe space for children and teenagers so that they feel understood and supported through their emotional challenges.

How Hypnotherapy Complements Other Child Therapies

If you’re looking into hypnotherapy for your child, you don’t necessarily need to work in conjunction with other types of therapies. That said, hypnotherapy when combined with other therapies is more holistic and tends to reinforce positive change faster.

When to Consider Hypnotherapy for Your Child

There are many emotional challenges that hypnotherapy can help with. If your child is avoiding school due to emotional reasons, struggling to sleep, navigating anger issues, or overcoming a phobia, reach out to one of our Fairies for your free initial consultation.

However, it’s worth noting that hypnotherapy isn’t solely reserved for when problems come up. It is also highly effective in boosting your child’s confidence and helping them with stress.

Paediatric Hypnotherapy FAQs

How does hypnotherapy work for children?

Hypnotherapy for children works by helping them enter a deeply relaxed, calm state where their imagination is more open and active. In this state, they can explore positive ideas, new perspectives, and helpful coping strategies in a way that feels natural and engaging. It’s always gentle, safe, and focused on supporting the child’s strengths.

Sessions are different depending on the needs of the teen or child, but often incorporate solution focused conversations, positive goal setting, stories, drawings, and guided visualisations.

Every child is different; some begin to feel calmer or confident after a few sessions, while some will need more time.

Yes, your child will be aware that they’re in a hypnotised state. They’ll be in control of their thoughts and actions, but will feel like they’re experiencing a calm, mindful daydream.
