Today you are you it is truer than true.  There is no one alive who is youer than you! Dr Suess

Everyone is different and when we can help children and young people to recognise, value and celebrate their individual strengths and characteristics, that truly has a significant and positive impact on their happiness and well-being.

I love to hear what children have to say and to really take the time to understand their point of view.  It’s a real privilege to be able to work with children to help them to find their confidence and give them the tools they need.  This often starts as learning to cope and then quickly transforms to positively thriving!

I have always loved working with children and before training in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy, I worked in Surrey as an Educational Psychologist (EP) for over 11 years.

Before this, I studied psychology at university and then became a primary school teacher.  I really wanted to focus on those who needed more help and support which led me to securing a place on the Professional Doctorate in Educational & Child Psychology and qualifying as an EP.

Before a young person decides if they would like to work with me, I offer a 1-hour initial consultation, which is an opportunity for them (and you) to meet me and includes an explanation of the brain in an age-appropriate, child-friendly way, so they can start to understand why we experience the feelings and emotions that we do.

I will then work with them, using use solution focused techniques, to support them in taking steps towards the positive changes they want to make.  I will also send a relaxation for your child to listen to at bedtime which really helps the process.

I have a vast range of experience of working with children and young people of all ages with a range of needs and and some of the areas I can help with include:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Emotional regulation
  • Lack of Confidence
  • Stress & Anger
  • Sleep difficulties
  • OCD
  • Trauma
  • Phobias & fears

The Solution Focused approach has always been the one to resonate most with me, particularly as it enables children to focus on how they would like feel or behave instead, rather than excessively focusing on the past or problems. I have seen what a difference this way of working can make to children in terms of increasing their confidence, sense of control and overall happiness.

As well as working with children one to one and in small groups, I have worked at an organisational level with schools and have extensive experience of training teachers and teaching assistants. During my time as an EP, I also realised that I love working with teenagers and young adults as well as younger children!

I am married and have 3 boys and a cat.  I understand how busy life can be and all the many unexpected things that can be thrown our way.  I do like to normalise and acknowledge with the children I work with that needing a little bit of help with our mental health is a hugely positive step to take.

I am fully ensured, have an up-to-date enhanced DBS certificate and am a member of the following professional bodies:

  • Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC)
  • National Board for Modern Psychotherapy (NBMP)
  • Association For Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AFSFH)
  • National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH)
  • Complementary and Natural Health Council (CNHC)
