Noticing the sparkle in a child’s eye, who was once too afraid to speak, as they stand in front of an audience with a huge smile on their face, ready to perform…

The joy on a child’s face when they announce they are ready and excited for junior school – the same child who a few months before, was anxious about leaving the house…

The thank you from a young person who has developed the tools to manage their anger so that they can not only cope with life’s challenges but RISE to them, knowing there is another way

These are just some of the moments which remind me what a privilege it is to be in a position which makes such a huge difference to the lives of young people.

I first began working with children and young people back in 2009, when I qualified as a Primary School Teacher. Over the years, I became acutely aware that my role was far more than supporting children academically and inspiring them to learn, but that I played a key role in nurturing a healthy and confident mindset within the children whom I was lucky enough to teach.

I have supported hundreds of children and their families in this role, and later as a Year Leader and member of the Senior Leadership Team in schools. I have watched as some of these young people and their families struggled to get the support they needed for their young person’s mental health, wishing there was more I could do to help.

This is what inspired me to train in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy and join the amazing team of therapists at The Youth Fairy. The mental health and wellbeing of children and young people is something I am hugely passionate about and is a subject that is very close to my heart.

Whilst still a teacher in the classroom, I combine my therapist role with a keen understanding of how to engage young people of all ages – from primary school age, through to young adults. I have a wealth of knowledge about a range of Additional Educational Needs and enjoy using a range of tools to help get the best out of the young people I work with. I am flexible and creative and understand the need to adapt to the needs of each individual, making the most out of our sessions together.

The real beauty is that the Solution Focused approach does not require a young person to relive past traumas or dwell on what is going wrong. It is a hugely empowering form of therapy which teaches young people not only how their brains work in an age-appropriate way, but also gives them the tools to make positive changes in their life, building a healthy mindset so that they can develop healthy habits for life.

I am based in Alton (Hants) and also provide services online.

I hold a fully enhanced DBS certificate, am fully insured and am bound by the Code of Ethics of the professional associations I am a member of, including:

  • National Board for Modern Psychotherapy (NBMP)
  • Association For Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AFSFH)
  • National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH)
  • Complementary and Natural Health Council (CNHC)

There is always something more to learn and I keep my knowledge and skills up to date by engaging in regular Supervision and Continual Professional Development.
