How would I describe what I do?

Giving young people the tools they need to feel more in control – of their emotions, unhelpful behaviours and, ultimately, their lives. To recognise their unique strengths, capabilities and to build the confidence they need to make positive changes and become the best version of themselves.

Before training as a therapist, I spent over a decade as a secondary school teacher, including the role of Associate Well-being Leader, responsible for improving the social and emotional care of staff and students.

I became increasingly aware of just how much children’s mental health could be affected by a number of different life events and pressures. With the busy constraints of secondary school life, I felt like I wasn’t able to give these young people enough of the dedicated support and time that they needed and deserved to support their well-being and mental health.

Nothing can beat the moment when a young person walks into my therapy space, beaming from ear to ear, telling me a whole list of things that have been great about their week. Especially when only a matter of weeks before they were unable to think many at all. And now, having qualified in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy, I am able to dedicate more quality one to one time to support young people with their well-being.

I offer a 1 hour consultation (free) face to face in Hastings & St Leonards or online, to discuss your child’s situation and how I can help them regain more emotional control and see them feeling happier, calmer and much more confident in a relatively short amount of time.

As well as helping young people make these changes, I’m passionate that educating them on their mental health, which is such an important and essential part of the change process. By empowering them with this knowledge, we can help young people to develop more positive, healthy habits for life.

In the consultation I’ll explain to you and your child how the brain works to create their specific problems and associated feelings, behaviours or symptoms. This understanding can be really motivational to children as they realise there is hope, see more clearly what we can do about it and how to promote more mentally healthy behaviours in the future.

This knowledge is super helpful for you as a parent too – it allows for greater understanding, creates a common language to talk more easily with your child about their well-being and gives you specific ideas of how you can best support the process (and beyond).

And because this modern, well researched approach is solution focused, it means your child won’t have to focus on the past in great detail or revisit traumatic events to make really positive change. Instead, it supports children to recognise their strengths and gives them the tools to move forward.

You’ll also get my relaxation audio downloads to help improve any sleep problems they are having and support the process.

I have an excellent knowledge of how to adapt my approach to engage and support the needs of each individual young person I work with so they can feel fully supported from their very first meeting with me.
